History of IPSC
From the 1976 International Pistol Conference to today.
The roots of modern practical shooting trace back to the 1950s and 60s in California, where a group of shooters led by Jeff Cooper sought a more realistic, dynamic form of shooting competition beyond traditional static, formal target shooting.
In May 1976, the first International Pistol Conference was held in Columbia, Missouri, USA, and the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) was formally founded.
Since then, IPSC has grown from a small American gathering into the world's largest practical shooting federation, with national federations across every continent, holding events like the World Shoot every few years.
Today IPSC encompasses not only its original Handgun division but also Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC), and Mini Rifle.
